Fun day - breakfast at the Lost Dog with Cos, then took Logan to the JICP to socialize with all his dog buddies, got all my errands crossed off my list, and later headed out to Irvin Vineyards on Wadmalaw Island for their annual "grape stomping festival". While I was in the area, I re-visited some of my favorite haunts, one being this row of mailboxes on Legare Farms, Johns Island. Summmer is on the way out. It was cooler this weekend by far, and I believe the temperature will drop by 10 degrees next week.

I haven't written since Monday, mainly because I didn't feel like it. Anyway, here's to the weekend. This was a scene that caused me to pull over on the connector this evening and take a photograph. The rainbow was intact - a full 180 degrees, which the lens couldn't capture, but one end seemed to dump straight on top of St. Michaels church.

Anyone else remember that song from Max Bygaves? Max Who? That's how I feel at the end of a weekend. I really do enjoy my weekends. This afternoon we did a family photo shoot at Folly Beach, and this is one of my favorite shots. After I had showered off the salt spray and sand, my friend Joost from Savannah and I headed out for some simple Greek fare at Athens Restaurant on Maybank. Good night!

The end of another week - gosh they are flying by. I'm already thinking about Thanksgiving! Actually I'm really thinking and planning for my upcoming trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons next month. Going to be spending 10 days in big sky country, in the fall. Crisp mornings and cool evenings, great scenery, geysers, bears ...what!! That's one thing I still have to buy - bear pepper spray. I've done enough research to figure that pepper spray would be a prudent accessory to tote along with my camera equipment. In the meantime, this image was shot this evening along Folly Road. I think they are wood storks and white egrets, but feel free to correct me.

It's been a South African tradition for years - making homemade boerewors (literally translated "farmers sausage".) When we first moved to the USA, we knew we needed to be self-sufficient in terms of ongoing supplies of this ethnic delicacy. Since it is quite a production; buying the meat, skins, spices, and then grinding it, stuffing it, bagging it, etc., we make at least 60 pounds at a time. Those involved are well-trained, and have specific skills. Mine is feeding the ground meat into the grinder consistently so that the skins are filled evenly, efficiently and with no airlocks. OK - more than you ever wanted to know about making homemade sausage.

I had to run an errand downtown today and this gate on South Battery caught my eye. It is the work of the late Philip Simmons. The white ribbon is in deference to his recent passing, and you can spot them all over downtown Charleston at the moment. RIP

Today was HOT. I was obliged to make my weekend daily pilgrimage to the dog park, but it had to be earlier than I would have liked, and it was unbearable. For Logan it was fine, since he made a beeline for the lake and sat down in 6 inches of water, but the humans just sweltered. Note to JI County Parks people - next dog park upgrade needs to provide shade! Later on, I met a family down at the Morris Island end of Folly Beach and we took some photographs. Here is one of them.

I haven't been sleeping that well, and when I have slept I've been dreaming very weird dreams - the kind that are so realistic that they stay with you all the next day. Funny how that goes. You don't dream (that you can remember) for ages, and then all of a sudden your brain kicks into overdrive while you sleep. Anyway tonight I am taking no chances, and right now the Benadryl is taking effect so I'm wrapping this up. Pictures are of an interesting mailbox and the downtown King Street Grocery store - both taken while running errands ealier.

Last night a bunch of us showed up at the VFW on James Island to support "Cosmo and friends" who were playing a gig there. It will be a little journey to get from here to the Music Hall, but hey they did a great job, and it was a lot of fun. Food was good too. I don't know where else you can get two glasses of wine, a home-cooked dinner, tip the bartender, band and waitstaff, and still come away with change from a $20 bill!
Didn't stay too late because this morning I met a photgrapher friend at 6.45am and we wandered all over Johns Island looking for photo opps. Didn't find much except a couple of cows, spiders and a few flowers. Oh well - that's what makes it so challenging - you just never know.
